In this project, we had the choice to redesign an existing menu or create our own. I selected the menu of a restaurant where I had worked. Layla is a wine country and Mediterranean-inspired restaurant. Layla is a hotel restaurant in MacArthur Place which is a historic property in northern California. My artistic goal was to include the historic side as a strong element in the menu redesign. The historic weathervane and specific elements of the weather vane were showcased throughout the design. This was accomplished with silhouettes. The prior menus also felt too common for the more “modern rustic” design of the historic property. I wanted to take these elements and create something that still felt elegant but with a touch of the past.
